FAQ's
How do I go about adopting the child I am sponsoring, or one of the children in your programs?
We understand how easy it is to fall in love with these children!! An Orphan’s Wish is not an adoption agency, but if you would like more information on China Adoption, please visit our Adoption Agency List Page. Currently, the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA www.china-ccaa.org ) does not permit families to pre-identify children for adoption. We encourage the orphanages we work with to submit all of our children’s files for adoption, as we believe every child deserves a forever family. The majority of our children are considered special needs children and are placed on Waiting Child lists by the CCAA for adoption. For more information about the Waiting Child Program in China, please visit www.waitingchild.org
If I am in the process of adopting a child in one of your programs, can you give me updated information on my child?
We are not able to give you any updated information or photos on the child you are adopting. The CCAA requires that all communication regarding any child must go through your adoption agency.
I have adopted a child in one of your programs and am home now, can I get copies of old photos and reports?
Yes, we are happy to provide you with this valuable information about your child’s early years in China once you are home. Please contact us when you return home with your new child.
Do you have more than one sponsor for each child?
Because we provide specialized, individualized care and therapy for our children, our children have more than one sponsor. Each sponsor will receive quarterly reports with photos of their sponsored child.
If my sponsored child leaves your program and goes into foster care, can I continue to sponsor this child?
Absolutely!! Once our children are healthy enough, we hope to move them into a loving foster family until they are adopted. We are partnering with Grace and Hope for Children (www.grace-hope.org ) who already has a quality foster care program in this province. Your sponsorship can be transferred to Grace and Hope for Children when the child is moved, so you can continue to follow their progress.
What percentage of my donation goes directly to the children in need?
Currently 98% of your donation goes directly toward our programs in China. Because all of our volunteers give of their time, we are able to keep our overhead costs to a minimum and ensure your donation goes to help the children in need.
I would like to volunteer to help these children, who do I contact?
We have many ways of volunteering your time and resources. Please contact us here for more information on volunteer opportunities we currently have available. Because we are a 100% all volunteer foundation, none of our volunteers receive any compensation for their time.
